TypeScript Language Server
What
The TypeScript Language Server is a separate process that runs in the background of your IDE. It is what actually provides real-time features like red squiggles, autocomplete, and “Go to Definition.”
How
While you don’t interact with it directly, you can restart it if your editor gets stuck or fails to show errors.
- VS Code:
Ctrl+Shift+P-> “TypeScript: Restart TS Server” - Zed:
Ctrl+Shift+P-> “Restart Language Server”
Why
It is important to distinguish the Language Server (which helps you write code) from the Compiler (which builds your code). Sometimes your editor might show an error that the compiler doesn’t (or vice versa) because they are using different versions of TypeScript or different configurations.
Summary
The language server is your silent assistant that makes TypeScript feel like a “live” environment.
