Removing Sections

What

Git config files are organized into logical headings called sections (e.g., [core], [user]). The remove-section subcommand allows you to delete an entire section heading along with all of its underlying key-value pairs in a single operation.

How

Specify the name of the section you want to delete:

# Delete the entire custom 'webflyx' section and its keys
git config remove-section webflyx

Why

When you unset individual keys using unset, the section header itself (e.g., [webflyx]) remains empty inside the configuration file. To keep your config files clean and avoid cluttering them with empty headers or residual configurations, remove-section sweeps away the entire group at once.

Summary

Use git config remove-section <section_name> to permanently delete an entire logical block and all its keys from your configuration file.
