Docker Registries
Docker Hub is the official cloud service for storing and sharing Docker images. We call these kinds of services “registries”.
By default, when you pull an image (like docker pull ubuntu), Docker fetches it from Docker Hub. However, there are many other popular image registries, usually coupled with major cloud providers:
- AWS Elastic Container Registry (ECR)
- GCP Artifact Registry
- GitHub Container Registry
- Harbor
- Azure Container Registry (ACR)
Docker Hub organizes images into “namespaces”. Usually, your namespace is simply your Docker Hub username, or the name of an organization (like library for official images, or caddy).
